Turn Staff Recommendations Into Stories

How can Storytelling help you in your business? Today: Turning staff recommendations into memorable guest stories.

The most useful concierge line is often not “Here are three good restaurants.”

It is: “If you want the kind of evening you will still talk about tomorrow, go to the small place behind the fish market. Ask for the corner table. Order the grilled octopus before sunset.”

Hospitality guests are surrounded by options. Restaurants, treatments, excursions, beaches, galleries, trails. More choice can feel helpful, but it can also make a guest pause, compare and worry about choosing wrong.

A story lowers that friction.

Guests do not buy rooms, spa treatments, dinners or services. They buy the feeling of being guided well, the pleasure of discovering something they would not have found alone, and the story they can tell when they return home.

A practical technique: the “Because you…” recommendation.

Instead of giving a list, connect one suggestion to one detail you have learned about the guest.

“You mentioned you wanted a quiet morning. There is a garden path most guests miss. If you go before breakfast, you will hear the fountains before the town wakes up.”

This works because the mind pays attention when advice feels personally relevant. A small story turns a recommendation into a mental picture. It also signals care: “You listened to me.”

That is often what luxury feels like.

Not more information.
More discernment.

Storytelling is a skill teams can learn and practice. I help hotels, resorts, spas and service teams develop this through workshops, coaching and training, especially in the small guest conversations that shape loyalty.

Today, ask one guest-facing team member to replace one generic recommendation with a “Because you…” story.
