Your Daily Dose of Storytelling – Jul 26, 2023

The moment you are standing in front of an audience can be intimidating. It’s natural to feel a bit of stage fright before you start speaking. However, with the right preparation and strategies, you can make sure your performance goes off without a hitch.

Whether you’re presenting to a small group or a large audience, the key is to own the stage. Here are some tips to help you do just that.

First, familiarize yourself with the stage size and type. Are you on a podium? Are there any monitors or screens? It’s important to know the setup before you get up there so you can plan out your movements.

Second, work with the microphone. You can use a clip-on lavalier for larger audiences or a handheld microphone if you’re in a more intimate setting. Make sure you know how to adjust the volume and use the microphone correctly.

Third, be aware of the lighting situation. If there are stage lights, you want to be sure you’re not in the glare. Likewise, you want to make sure you’re visible to the audience.

Fourth, practice your entrances and exits. When you first come on stage, make sure you pause and take a few seconds to connect with the audience before you start speaking. This helps to capture their attention and create a bond. When you’re finished, pause again and thank them.

Finally, when you’re up there, remember to be confident and engaging. Make eye contact with members of the audience, smile, and use body language to emphasize your points.

Owning the stage is all about being prepared and confident. With the right strategies, you can make sure your presentation or speech goes off without a hitch. Good luck!
